Any independent endorsement of your products is to be welcomed especially when you’re a small family business and you don’t have the advertising budgets of the big boys. That’s why in December 2011 we invested in some independent market research to find out what motor stockists and professional motor mechanics really think about our flagship product K-Seal. Although K-Seal sales have climbed to almost 2 million units with competitors snapping at your ankles, complacency is never an option! We learnt from this research that 89.4% of our trade stockists recommend K-Seal to their customers and, a whopping 65% advise customers asking for another brand of permanent coolant leak repair, to buy K-Seal instead. K-Seal comes out on top with University product testing

K-Seal together with other coolant leak repair products has been tested by the engineering department at a leading British University using the ASTM D-3147 test method. They concluded that K-Seal not only met the requirements of the standard but that it also sealed the largest holes when compared with other total coolant leak repair products. The team who carried out the testing did comment that the test methods described in the ASTM standard were very simplistic and dated and they felt it did not reflect the challenges placed on leak repair products by modern engine cooling systems. Watch this space as we reveal the results in the coming months of how K Seal fares versus the competition with the more challenging testing standards currently being established by the University.

The £30 alternative to a £1000 bill

The AA is advising motorists on its website that if they are buying a new car and planning to use it primarily for town-based or stop start driving that they should avoid a car fitted with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) because of the possible hassle of incomplete ‘DPF regeneration’. Good advice because ignoring the warnings will lead to an increase in the soot loading – the net result being a new DPF costing around £1000 or more. All is not lost! How K-Seal stopped a train in it’s cracks!

We wanted to share this e-mail (without any alterations). To fill you in on the background; several months ago we sent 12 bottles of K-Seal HD to Mike Millward, diesel train enthusiast and technical officer for the Class 37 Loco Group. This is what he sent to us a few days ago:

“About time I bought you up to speed with the K-Seal in an English Electric Diesel engine saga. We put half of what you supplied into the engine last September and over a two-day period the engine was run up to temperature several times. Then we had a major electrical fault and repairs took a couple of months over last (very cold) winter. We also replaced the engine oil with fresh as the condition of the old oil was very bad. Anyway, this year the locomotive has successfully and reliably worked all required diagrams at the Mid Norfolk Railway with absolutely no loss of coolant at all, no coolant has got into the oil via the cylinder liner seals or appeared at any of the usual pipe joint suspects. The K-seal appears to be doing its job as described. I am happy with it, the Committee of the Class 37 Loco Group is happy and so far it has saved us an engine strip-down to replace the ‘liner seals. I have attached a photo of the loco at Dereham on 10th Sept 2011, prior to working a train to Wymondham. I would like to thank you and the company for your assistance in helping to look after 37003 and I will keep you updated as and when thing do (or don’t) happen.”

Why Mike Manifold is a ‘snake oil’ sceptic

Recently when flicking through Land Rover magazine we found an article, “Stemming the Flow” written by Range Rover enthusiast Mike Manifold. Mike bought a 12-year-old HSE model with a number of problems including overheating and water use issues. It needed a new block – with a potential repair bill of £2000. In Mike’s own words… “My only resort was to try one of the remedies found on the shelves of the motorist stores and see if that worked. I classify many of the wonder cures available for cars as snake oil as they are essentially quack medicine but there are odd ones I have used that work and one of those is K-Seal… I have used it with great effect on 300 TDI engines with porosity problems in the cylinder head castings. I therefore decided to give it a go on the P38 engine as, at worse, I would waste £20 and at best I might have a usable vehicle. I shot a couple of bottles of it into the top hose as it is the quickest way to introduce it into the cooling system. I then ran the engine for about 20 minutes, taking small amounts of water every few minutes to top up the header tank…. Off for a test drive and 10 miles later it was still fine. I wish all repairs were as easy as this and perhaps all the potions on the motorist centres’ shelves are not snake oil. After all, K-Seal might just be that magic elixir solution for Rover V8 engines.”
